Australia Continues to Be Attractive Region for Oncology Trials
AusBiotech, in Melbourne, Australia, hosted its largest conference yet with more than 1,600 attendees.
Cell and Gene Summit
The breakout session I enjoyed attending most was AusBiotech’s inaugural Cell and Gene Summit. The summit aims to accelerate the cell and gene ecosystem throughout Australia and increase patient access to cell and gene therapies. The future of cell and gene therapy sessions were inspiring.
AusPartnering and networking opportunities
The AusPartnering business matching tool enabled me to pre-schedule meetings during the week. I heard from many biotechs about the innovative, next-gen oncology therapies they are developing and shared how Catalyst Oncology can help.
I also had the opportunity to meet with many oncology sites over the course of the week and learn more about their experiences and capabilities to support Catalyst’s oncology trials. Oncology sites in Australia are keen to work on the most innovative breakthroughs in cancer treatment. With early-phase oncology trials becoming more global, the opportunity to foster relationships with new oncology sites was invaluable.
Vibrant growth and environment for clinical trials
The big takeaway from this year’s conference was the health and vibrancy of Australia’s clinical research industry. With its streamlined regulatory environment, generous clinical research and development tax incentive, and no-IND requirement, Australia continues to be a go-to destination for clinical trials, especially in oncology research. Australia’s expedited ethics committee review process can lead to first-in-patient (FPI) milestones being achieved in as little as eight to 12 weeks from submission.
