Despite being the most common cancer, cancers of the skin are often overlooked due to high survival rates for many types. Though many skin cancers are highly treatable, melanoma poses a unique threat to people of all ages. Accounting for roughly 1% of skin cancers, melanoma is responsible for the majority of skin cancer deaths. The American Cancer Society estimates that over 7,000 people in the United States will lose their battle against melanoma this year alone.
These statistics hit close to home for Krystle Karoscik, Senior Clinical Project Manager, Catalyst. Krystle’s grandmother, Rose Neyman, was diagnosed with melanoma in 2006. With the help of clinical research, she gallantly survived melanoma for 14 years.
Rose lost her battle in January 2020 surrounded by friends and family in her hometown of Dickson City, Penn., but her memory lives on in Krystle and the actions she takes to raise awareness of and funds for Melanoma research.
This May, Krystle led an initiative to raise money for the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF), the largest independent organization dedicated to supporting clinical research in finding effective therapies and, one day, a cure for melanoma. Krystle hosted a virtual wine tasting fundraiser in loving memory of Rose, with the goal of helping to transform one of the deadliest cancers into one of the most treatable.
As a clinical research organization, Catalyst shares the goal of helping people obtain more precious days, months, and years through the development of effective therapies and cures. The Catalyst family was delighted to support Krystle in her efforts, resulting in the donation of more than $1300 by friends and family of Krystle, Catalyst, and our dedicated employees.
Catalyst’s company culture is rooted in our people-first foundational belief, which permeates everything we do. From our philanthropy and volunteering to our sustainability initiatives, we strive to collaborate openly and inclusively for the best impact on the communities in which we live, work, and play. That’s why we are proud to support team members like Krystle, in their efforts to raise awareness and funds for charities and organizations that matter most to them.
